How to Clean a Smart Toilet: A Simple Maintenance Guide

par EPLOINC

Many smart toilets include features such as a bidet wand, heated seat, sensors, and electronic controls. These parts need a little more care than the ceramic bowl. These are not parts you want to scrub with an abrasive pad or soak with harsh chemicals. Cleaning one isn't complicated, but it's not the same as cleaning a regular toilet. Here's what actually works.

Before You Start

Before performing maintenance, shut off the power supply. If you need to clean the water filter, also turn off the angle valve before removing the filter. Always follow the instructions for your specific model. Keep the area around the electrical components dry while cleaning. After cleaning, make sure all surfaces are completely dry before reconnecting the power.

1. The Bowl

The ceramic bowl is the one part you can clean like a normal toilet.

For the ceramic bowl, use a soft, damp cloth to clean the surface regularly. Avoid abrasive products and harsh chemicals, and keep cleaning products away from the electronic components.

Skip the abrasive powders, steel wool, and harsh chemicals — they can scratch the ceramic or cause problems if they get onto the seat or electronic components.

2. The Bidet Nozzle

The bidet nozzle should be cleaned regularly to help maintain proper spray performance.

For EPLO smart toilets:

  1. Make sure no one is seated on the toilet and turn the knob clockwise to extend the spray nozzle.

  2. When the nozzle moves forward, remove it for cleaning.

  3. Clean the nozzle with a soft, damp cloth or soft brush.

  4. Do not pull or push the spray wand, as this may cause damage.

  5. Reinstall the nozzle and press the knob to return the spray wand to its normal position.

If spray performance becomes weaker than usual, check the nozzle and water filter for buildup.

3. The Seat and Lid

Soft, damp cloth. Wipe the seat (top and underside), the lid, and the exterior body.

For stubborn marks, follow the cleaning instructions in your owner's manual.

Pay attention to the hinges and the gap between the seat and the bowl. These areas can collect hair and grime and are easy to overlook.

Avoid abrasive sponges and harsh chemicals, which can scratch the seat surface and make it harder to keep clean.

4. The Control Panel and Sensors

Wipe the panel, remote, and sensors with a soft, damp cloth, then dry them right away.

Never spray water or cleaner directly onto the controls. Water or cleaning products can damage electronic components if they get inside the controls.

If the auto-flush or auto-open lid becomes less responsive, check the sensor area first and make sure it is clean. Dust or residue on the sensor lens can affect how well the sensor detects movement. Wipe the sensor lens gently with a dry cloth and test the function again. If the problem continues, refer to the troubleshooting instructions for your model.

5. Water Filter

If the spray pressure becomes weaker than usual, the water filter may need cleaning.

Before removing the filter:

  1. Turn off the power and close the angle valve.

  2. Remove the angle valve nut and filter net.

  3. Clean the filter net under running water using a soft toothbrush.

  4. Reinstall the filter net and angle valve nut securely.

  5. Turn on the angle valve and reconnect the power.

Always follow your model's owner's manual when performing filter maintenance.

6. Hard Water and Mineral Buildup

If you live in a hard-water area, you'll eventually see white, chalky deposits around the bowl, nozzle, and water connections. Heavy buildup can restrict the nozzle openings and may affect wash pressure.

Wipe regularly to keep light buildup from hardening. If you notice mineral buildup, check your owner's manual before using any descaling product. Only use a product specifically approved for your model. The wrong descaler may damage seals, plastic parts, or other internal components.

Do not use a descaling solution unless your manufacturer's instructions allow it.

How Often to Clean

A simple routine can help keep your smart toilet clean. Adjust the frequency based on usage, water quality, and your model's maintenance instructions.

Frequency What to Do
Every few days Wipe the seat, lid, and frequently touched areas
Weekly Clean the bowl and check the bidet nozzle
As needed Give the bidet nozzle a more thorough cleaning
As recommended Check the water filter, if your model has one, and look for mineral buildup

Always follow the cleaning schedule in your owner's manual if it differs from the recommendations above.

Hard water and high-traffic bathrooms need more frequent cleaning.

What Not to Use

  • Abrasive powders or scouring pads

  • Steel wool

  • Harsh chemical cleaners

  • Strong solvents

  • Excess water around electronic components

  • Direct sprays on the control panel or sensors

When in doubt, use a soft, damp cloth and follow your owner's manual for any additional cleaning products.

Simple Smart Toilet Maintenance

A simple cleaning routine is usually enough to keep a smart toilet clean and help prevent buildup. Clean the bowl regularly, keep the nozzle and sensors free of residue, and keep water and harsh cleaners away from electronic components.

For EPLO Smart Toilets: Follow the care and maintenance instructions provided with your specific model before using any cleaner or descaling product.
