Is an EPLO Smart Toilet Safe and Compliant? Every Mark, Explained

par EPLOINC

Yes. An EPLO smart toilet is certified and fully compliant before it ever reaches a North American bathroom.

The lineup is cUPC listed for plumbing, EGS certified for electrical safety, ETL listed and registered with the Department of Energy. Water-saving models in the G20 series and Pro M series fit the EPA's WaterSense standard.

One Smart Toilet, Three Kinds of Risk

A smart toilet concentrates three risks in one ceramic body. Water touches electronics, so the electrical side has to survive a wet room.

The wash function connects to the drinking water supply, so nothing from the bowl can siphon back into your tap. Federal and state law set limits on how much water a toilet may use.

No single certificate covers all three. The marks below divide the job.

Mark Issued by What it tests What it protects
cUPC IAPMO Plumbing code: flush performance, backflow prevention, drinking water safety Your drinking water and a legal installation
EGS IAPMO Leakage protection, grounding, moisture resistance, flame retardants The electrical side in a wet room
ETL Intertek Electrical safety, legally equivalent to UL Same baseline major retailers demand
WaterSense US EPA 1.28 gpf or less with at least 350g waste removal Water use, verified by a third party
DOE US Department of Energy Federal water-use limits, CCMS registration Legal sale in the US
CEC California Energy Commission California's 1.28 gpf cap Legal sale in California
MaP MaP testing program Solid waste cleared in a single flush Flush performance you can look up

Plumbing Safety: cUPC and Your Drinking Water

The cUPC mark is issued by IAPMO, the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials. The small c in front of UPC means the product meets both the US Uniform Plumbing Code and the applicable Canadian national standards.

For a smart toilet, that covers three things that matter to your home. Flush performance, so the fixture works the way the code says it should. Backflow prevention, so wash water can never siphon into the drinking water supply. And safe drinking water requirements for every surface the water touches.

All EPLO models are cUPC listed.

Electrical Safety: How an EPLO Smart Toilet Carries Two Marks

Water and electricity share one cabinet in a smart toilet, so the electrical side carries two marks.

The first is EGS, IAPMO's certification program for electrical and mechanical plumbing products, accepted in both the US and Canada. EGS testing covers leakage protection, grounding, moisture resistance, flame-retardant materials, and safety documentation.

A cUPC certified smart toilet that also carries EGS has its water side and its electrical side tested by one source, under one file.

The second is ETL, legally equivalent to UL in the US and Canada. Major retailers treat ETL as the safety baseline for electrical products, and the ETL listing can be issued together with cUPC under a single program.

In practice, this means the pump, the heated seat, and the control board have all been through third-party electrical testing, not just the factory's own checks. One boundary is worth knowing: the marks cover the product, not your wiring. Any outlet or circuit work near the toilet is a job for a licensed electrician.

Compliance on Paper: DOE, CEC, and WaterSense on an EPLO Smart Toilet

Water law arrives in layers, and the lineup clears each one before sale.

A toilet sold in the US must meet federal water-use limits under the Energy Policy Act and be registered in DOE's Compliance Certification System before it goes on sale.

California enforces a stricter layer through the California Energy Commission (CEC). Toilets sold there must use no more than 1.28 gallons per flush (gpf), against the federal 1.6 gpf ceiling. Models rated at or below 1.28 gpf clear both lines at once.

WaterSense is the third layer, and the strictest. It is the EPA's voluntary label: a WaterSense toilet flushes at 1.28 gpf or less while still clearing at least 350g of solid waste per flush.

Models in the G20 series and Pro M series fit the standard, which also counts toward green retail programs.

Proof You Can Check: MaP Scores

MaP, short for Maximum Performance, measures how much solid waste a toilet clears in a single flush. The WaterSense pass line is 350g. Most toilets score between 500g and 800g.

EPLO models score 800g to 1000g, and several models reach 1000g, nearly three times the WaterSense requirement.

FAQs

Does cUPC certification apply to smart toilets?

Yes. Electronic smart toilets are tested for cUPC compliance like any other fixture that connects to potable water, and the electrical side is covered separately by marks such as ETL and EGS. Every EPLO model is cUPC listed.

Are ETL and UL the same?

Legally, yes. ETL is operated by Intertek and is equivalent to UL throughout the US and Canada. Both are OSHA-recognized NRTL marks, so a listing from either lab satisfies the same safety requirement.

Do EPLO smart toilets qualify for WaterSense?

Models in the G20 series and Pro M series fit the WaterSense standard. They flush at 1.28 gpf and clear at least 350g of solid waste. Other series are built around different strengths, so check the product page for the model you have in mind.

Conclusion

So, is an EPLO smart toilet safe and compliant? The answer sits in the marks, not the marketing. cUPC covers the plumbing and the drinking water line. EGS and ETL cover the electrical side in a wet room.

Registration with DOE and CEC covers the legal side of the sale, and the WaterSense standard flags the models that go further on water efficiency. MaP puts a number on flush performance.

None of it rests on the brand's word alone. The IAPMO directory is public, MaP results are published, and each mark traces back to a file a contractor can check.

When you compare models, ask one question first: does the spec sheet show all seven marks from the table above? The U8MAX product page and the G20 series pages list them model by model. If a mark is missing, ask for the listing number before you order.
