Smart Toilet Buying Guide: How to Choose the Right Fit

von EPLOINC

Buying a smart toilet is easy. Buying one that fits takes a tape measure. Feature lists photograph well, but four key measurements and installation checks can determine whether a model will work in your bathroom.

The EPLO Smart Toilet Lineup in One Table

Five product series cover the main buying considerations. They overlap on features more than they differ, which is why the table has to be read with a room and a household in mind.

Series What it changes Best for
E18 built-in tank, booster pump, dual flush weak water pressure, a busy family bath
G20 water-saving flush, UVC treatment on the G20PRO high water bills, or a household that wants the UVC step
U8 1000g MaP, auto lid, foot sensor, moving dryer on U8MAX the main bathroom, two adults
W20

wall-hung, tank hidden inside the wall

a small bath, or a remodel with the wall open
Pro M flushing that does not depend on home water pressure

Match the Model to the Room

The right smart toilet depends on your bathroom layout, plumbing and daily needs. Start from the constraint you cannot change, then spend the budget on other features.

A shared main bathroom

Two adults, one toilet, daily routines that repeats twice a day. The U8 series may be a good fit for a shared main bathroom.

MaP testing loads the bowl with 1000 grams of solid waste and asks for one flush. A 1,000-gram MaP rating indicates performance at that tested load; actual results depend on the model and installation.

An automatic lid and a foot sensor can reduce the need to touch the lid or bend down to flush. The U8MAX adds a moving warm dryer that covers more ground instead of blowing from one fixed angle.

A bathroom with weak water pressure

If you are shopping for a smart toilet for low water pressure, look for a model with a built-in tank and booster pump. The E18 series offers models with this setup.

A house watching its water bill

The G20 family answers a different question, and it is not about pressure. It is about how much water leaves the house.

The G20MAX is rated at 1.28 gallons per flush. The EPA's WaterSense specification sets a maximum effective flush volume of 1.28 gallons per flush for qualifying toilets, so it is the number to hold against anything else on the shelf.

Hygiene is the other half of this family. The G20PRO is listed with a UVC treatment step, a less visible treatment feature.

A small bathroom, or a remodel with the wall open

The W20 conceals the tank inside the wall and leaves the floor beneath the wall-mounted bowl open.

It is also the one family here that is a construction project rather than a swap. A wall-hung unit needs a carrier frame bolted to the studs before the wall closes, plus a supply and drain run inside that cavity. Plan it with a licensed plumber before the tile goes up.

A house where someone needs to sit and stand without help

Hip, knee and back trouble turn the last ten seconds of every visit into the hard part. Three features carry that load: a taller seat, an auto lid, and automatic flushing.

Seat height first. The ADA Standards put a compliant seat at 17 to 19 inches off the floor, against roughly 15 inches for a standard toilet. U8MAX and G20MAX are both listed as ADA compliant. Standing up from 17 inches takes less push than standing up from 15.

What to Measure Before You Order

Check these four installation details before ordering.

1. The rough-in. Two minutes with a tape, done from the finished wall, tile included, to the center of the floor drain. Not from the baseboard.

Most North American toilets are built for 12 inches. A smart toilet rough-in has to match the drawing for that exact unit, not the one your neighbor installed.

2. The outlet. Do smart toilets need electricity? For the seat, the wash, the dryer and the lid, yes. All of it runs on household current. Is there a grounded GFCI outlet within reach of the cord? An extension cord across a wet floor is not a plan. If the bathroom has none, that belongs to a licensed electrician.

3. Water pressure. A suitable pressure gauge can help you measure your home's water pressure. A model with a built-in tank and booster pump may be worth considering if your home has low water pressure.

4. Seat height. Sit on your current toilet and notice where your feet land. A seat height of 17 to 19 inches may be more comfortable for some users who have difficulty sitting down or standing up.

Then ask for the installation drawing for the exact model.

FAQ

Do smart toilets need electricity to flush?

Most do, because the pump and the control board run on current. EPLO keeps an outage path on several models, so those units still flush when the power is out.

What is a rough-in, and what if mine is not 12 inches?

The rough-in is the distance from the finished wall behind the toilet to the center of the floor drain. Twelve inches is the common case here, ten and fourteen turn up in older houses. A mismatch is fixable with an offset flange or a different model, but decide before placing the order.

Is a bidet seat a better buy than a full smart toilet?

A bidet seat keeps the bowl you already own, costs less, and swaps out in an afternoon if the electronics fail. What it cannot do is lift its own lid, flush itself, or hide a tank. If bending and reaching is the reason you are shopping, the full unit answers that.

Which EPLO model should a first-time buyer start with?

Consider the E18 if you are looking for an entry-level option. Consider the U8MAX or G20MAX if hands-free convenience is a priority and the selected model includes the features you need. All three are floor-mount units, and the rough-in check still comes first.

Before You Order

Two minutes of measuring beats a week of comparing. Write down the rough-in, the distance to the nearest outlet and your water pressure, then check two product pages against those numbers.

That is how to choose a smart toilet without a showroom: narrow by room, then by measurement, then by tthe features you will use most often.
